Uber Ghana offers several ride categories in Accra and other covered cities. The options available to you depend on your location and the time of your booking — check the Uber app for what's currently active near you.

UberX

UberX is Uber Ghana's standard and most widely available ride category. It is the default option for most everyday trips — commutes, errands, short city journeys, and airport runs where comfort is less of a priority than cost. UberX typically accommodates up to four passengers.

Fares for short UberX rides in Accra typically range from around GH₵25 to GH₵35, with longer cross-town journeys reaching GH₵60 or more depending on traffic and distance. Kumasi fares tend to run slightly lower. All fares are shown upfront in the app before you confirm your booking.

Uber Comfort

Uber Comfort is available in Ghana for riders who want an upgraded experience — newer vehicles (manufactured from 2010 onwards), more legroom, and enhanced service standards. Comfort drivers are eligible only with higher-rated vehicles and maintain stricter performance metrics than standard UberX.

A Comfort ride typically costs more than an equivalent UberX trip. It's suited to airport transfers, business meetings, client pickups, or any occasion where a cleaner, quieter, more comfortable ride is worth the additional fare. Riders can also set preferences — including preferred in-car temperature and whether they'd like to chat — before the driver arrives.

UberXL

UberXL accommodates groups of up to six passengers, making it the practical choice for families, groups travelling together, or rides involving significant luggage. Fares are higher than UberX but can work out cheaper per person when split across a larger group.

Uber Reserve (Advance Booking)

Uber Ghana allows you to schedule a ride up to 90 days in advance through the Reserve feature in the app. This is particularly useful for:

• Kotoka International Airport pickups and drop-offs — where you can lock in your fare ahead of time and avoid surge pricing at peak travel periods
• Early morning trips where driver availability may be lower
• Business travel where punctuality is critical
• Any journey where you want certainty about both the vehicle and the price before the day arrives

When you book in advance with Uber Reserve, the price is locked in at the time of booking. You can cancel for free until one hour before the scheduled pickup, or if no driver has accepted the trip yet.

How to Apply an Uber Ghana Promo Code

Uber promo codes are entered in the app before you request your ride. Here is the process:

1. Open the Uber app on your phone
2. Go to Account → Wallet → Add Promo Code
3. Enter your Uber Ghana promo code exactly as shown and tap Apply
4. Return to the home screen and enter your pickup location and destination

Mobile Money (MoMo) — MTN Mobile Money, Vodafone Cash, and AirtelTigo Money are all accepted for Uber rides in Ghana. MoMo is one of the most practical payment options for most Ghanaian riders, as it avoids the need to carry cash or use a bank card.

Cash — Cash payment is available for Uber rides in Ghana. You pay the driver directly at the end of the trip after they confirm the fare. Cash is the most widely preferred payment method by Ghanaian Uber drivers, as it avoids the delay of platform-processed payments. Carrying the exact amount or close to it reduces friction at the end of your journey.

Debit and credit card — Card payment is supported through the Uber app. However, in Ghana, card-linked bookings can occasionally cause friction with drivers who prefer cash or MoMo.
